Welcome to my newsletter, a place for budget-based recipes that are flavorful and exciting—not just cheap. I am so glad you’ve placed your attention here for a moment. If you’re interested in more, please do subscribe below.
Good morning from (hopefully not, but unfortunately looking that way) the only really nice day of the Memorial Day weekend. As a freelancer, I don’t really know the definition of a long weekend anymore—I always have them! I never have them! What is a workday vs not?—but I do know that there tend to be more folks around to eat with in times like these.
So I wanted to point you to a handful of recipes (from the ol’ F52 column, all under $10!) you maybe haven’t made yet that would be perfect to share with friends and fam this weekend. Because the best thing about shitty weather is you can still cook. I haven’t decided what I’m going to make yet, other than ranch water and another test batch of berry shortcakes (coming soon.) Any thoughts?
Lemony Pasta With Sardines & Escarole
Grilled Tofu Cabbage Cups With Garlicky Yogurt
Just sear the tofu in a cast iron skillet if you don’t have a grill.
Pepperoni Pizza Salad
To make your own croutons, follow the recipe here, skipping the melted cheese.
Pita Chip Dinner Salad With Stone Fruit & Chickpeas
It’s a little early for stone fruit in New York, but I’ve found some halfway decent plums! Use frozen (and defrosted) or water-canned peaches or apricots for a cheaper option. If not-peak-season or preserved fruit horrifies you, swap in tomatoes (Campari and other small ones are always good and not outrageously expensive.)
